# Pokémon Crystal - "Variant 20" ROM hack

## Main changes

- Any Pokémon that would normally receive battle XP loses a level instead
    - This also applies to fainted Pokémon that would otherwise receive XP
    - The minimum level is 2 due to the way experience curve
    - Daycare doesn't give experience
- Already owned species can't be encountered or caught in the wild
- Regular trainer battles only happen when initiated by the player
- All obtainable Pokémon start at their normal level + 1 + badge count
- Repels are replaced with Tutors, which teach level-up moves early
    - Normal, Super, and Max Tutors give advances of 10, 20, and 30 levels
    - If no moves are taught, the Tutor is not consumed
- X items aren't sold in stores

## Auxiliary changes

- Wild encounters can be turned off

## Quality of life changes

- Pokémon are fully healed after each battle
- Hold B to run
- Faster text and animations
